Save green while going green. Just follow these steps and you will see a difference in your wallet.
1. Liquid hand soap, shampoo, body wash and dish soap. All of these can be used at a much much slower rate than we currently do. Next time you buy soap, purchase one of those foam containers. Don't toss them! They are refillable. Refill with your choice of soap 3Tbsp to 2/3 cup of water. You may play with this ratio a bit with the shampoo. For extra savings, buy the big refill bottles or the large bottles of shampoo and body wash for refilling. You won't be buying soap for a long time!

2. Lunch box. Stop using all of those plastic bags and juice boxes! Use plastic containers, thermos, real silverware and a real lunch box. You won't be buying any refills ever. No more expensive juice boxes. If you are afraid of the silverware, pick some up at a yard sale or thrift shop.

3. Water Usage. Cut back on your shower times, just a minute or two each time. Turn the water off when you are drying your hands or brushing your teeth. Stop rinsing those dishes! It isn't necessary. Don't wash dishes with running water. Use gray water (used) for your plants both indoors and out.

4. Water bottles. Stop buying those expensive water bottles. The impact of the water bottling plants on our environment is terrible. The largest landfill filler is the water bottle. These companies make huge amounts of money by stealing water from our streams and sticking it in a bottle. Buy a thermos one time and just take it with you when you leave the home.

5. Detergent. You only need 1/4 the amount of detergents than recommended on the bottle. Buy less, less trash, more savings.

6. Spray bottles. Stop buying those cleaning wipes. The are expensive, run $.10 to $.15 per wipe. Instead buy the spray bottle and use a wash cloth to do the wiping.

7. Mulch Gardens. Use your grass clippings to mulch around your plants. They offer good nutrients and they help with moisture.

8. Use your plates. Stop using paper plates, plastic silverware and plastic cups. Use the real stuff. No more spills on the floor.

9. Buy energy appliances. When you need to repurchase an appliance. Buy the energy star appliance. They run around $100 more, but are well worth it. You get savings in your bills and you sometimes get a tax rebate. If you can't afford the extra for the energy star, check the energy tags and buy the best. Freezer on top refrigerators and the most energy efficient.

10. Buy existing homes. Stop giving developers a reason to take over more and more land. Buy existing homes, they tend to be more affordable and you can make changes to suit you in old homes the same as new.

If you try and adopt just a few of these tips, you will make an impact on our environment. Some people say that just one person changing can't make a difference. But that isn't so, you will be an example. Eventually others will see you and begin to make changes themselves. Thank you for caring.
